A Shot-byShot Analysis of "Totall Recall" Teaser Trailer
http://youtu.be/_Z4Z-E-Mxbo
We were set the task of writing down every shot in a trailer mainly to make the very basic point that trailers contain a lot of shots. This sounds obvious, but until I did this task, I had not realised quite how many. This also took me a long time because the trailer moved so quickly and I had to pause and rewind after almost every shot. This made me realise that you actually remember relatively little of the actual content of a trailer after watching it - I couldn't remember exactly what I'd seen seconds after watching it and had to rewind. The point is that the trailer makes an overall impression from the combination of shots that you do remember. The key shots that you do remember tend to be slower paced and right at the end. This is a different editing style from what we are used to - we need to make sure that the overall impression of our trailer tells the audience what it's about, not the individual shots which might not register.
