1) What worked well with my print products?
On my second product, the magazine cover I think that the background image worked well and looked convincing. It set the scene for the film and didn’t look out of place. Also I think that the. Also I think the colour scheme of the whole cover worked well. Blue and white was effectively used throughout and tied the background, the image and the text all together. Although I don't like my poster, I do think I managed the image extraction quite well, and this is probably the most important skill on Photoshop.
2) What codes and conventions did I follow well?
I think that my cover conveys a typical ‘rom-com’ stereotype. The pose by which the characters are standing in, and the background image of Paris, all reinforces human nature in thinking and associating these things with romance.
3) What was not so successful about my print products?
The masthead on my magazine cover didn’t work as well as I had hoped. The image covered too much of the ‘o’ in the title of the magazine and although this was the intention and most of the time looks good, as the image covered to much it didn’t look good and just looks as though there is a letter missing. Also the font of the rest of the writing on the magazine cover didn’t work as well as it could have. It didn’t stand out very much, and didn’t put enough emphasis on the title of the film, which should be the main focus. The poster didn't work at all. There is no sense of genre or context and even if I had finished it, I still don't think I would have liked it as I was using it as a technical practice really rather than a creative task.
4) What will I now bear in mind when making my examined print products?
Next time, when I do this for my exam I will take the text on the magazine cover into consideration more. This time round I spent the majority of my time on the images and the text was last minute and therefore didn’t turn out to look as good as I had planned and it was rushed and not really thought out. I will also think carefully about the backgrounds I need. For this practice task I found backgrounds on the internet, but we are obviously not allowed to do this in the real coursework and I have seen that having the right background can make all the difference to whether the main image works or not.
