Feedback and Evaluation - Print Product Experiments - James

We used post-it notes to give each other feedback on the experimental print products we had produced. This and the experience of making them has helped us evaluate our work so far. Photoshop was new to me and it was useful to have a chance to use it before starting on the actual coursework, as I now have much more idea of what it can and cannot do and can plan the final print products according to this.

What I did well

Magazine: Image and text composed well on page. Font matches the vibe / feel of the page

Poster: Background fitting for the film. Font and image work well together.

Codes and Conventions used successfully

Magazine: Left hand bias. Main image overlaps masthead. Movie title and image are central.

Poster: Landscape. Text stands out and is central. Striking main image.

What I didn’t do so well:

Magazine: Not enough text or images. Not all image printed. Puff doesn’t look great.

Poster: Image not cropped properly. Not enough text. Didn’t finish manipulating main image.

What I will bear in mind when making ‘real’ products

Magazine: Think about what other images to use and plan layout. Think about text colours early. Think about sizing of photos to have minimal cropping / changes.

Poster: Cropping images so landscape if wanted. Use of other images to layer effectively to create narrative. Thinking about colour palette early. Colour of text.
