Feedback and Evaluation - Print Product Experiments - Luke

We used post-it notes to give each other feedback on the experimental print products we had produced. This and the experience of making them has helped us evaluate our work so far.

What did I do well?
Poster:
·         Good use of colours - catches eye and gives sense of jeopardy
·         Plot of film is evident - narrative carried through image
·         Connects with the genre - use of props etc
Magazine:
·         Good use of masthead - looks authentic
·         Effective teaser text
·         Correct style and layout for film magazine
·         Overlap of masthead works well and main image gives away genre and sense of fun
Which codes + conventions of ‘real’ posters/magazines did I use successfully?
Poster:
·         Main characters present
·         Sense of plot line
·         Genre of the film is evident
·         Colours match the mood of the film. ‘red’ is angry and with the gun it points towards violence
Magazine:
·         The ‘main’ image takes up the majority of space but other smaller images are evident.
·         Main image overlaps the masthead
·         At least 3 colours are evident
·         The terminology. ‘On set’ ‘also’ ‘more!’
·         Smaller images relevant to film
·         Text is relevant to the target audience of film fans
What did not work well in my print products?
Poster:
·      No title is shown
·      It’s clearly not finished
·      No text, nothing to say it is a film
·      Too much blank space
·      Not much to bring context to the images
Magazine:
·      The background image is distracting
·      Some of the colours don’t work too well projected against the background
·      It would work better as a poster rather than a magazine cover
·      Should’ve been more variation in font
What will I bear in mind when I start my examined print products?
When I start my final examined print product for my poster I will make sure that the text brings context to the image (anchorage) and fits well with the genre. Also I will bear in mind the colours that are related to different genres and how effective they are.
When I start my final examined print product for my magazine cover I will make sure that my background and image relates to magazines and does not look like a poster as I previously made this mistake - magazine backgrounds tend to be more neutral than the one I created here. I will be aware of what fonts and colours I am using and also how much I vary these. I will try to place the smaller images in boxes so they stand out better against the background also.
