How Do I Know It’s a Trailer?
Signs that this is a trailer are the ratings card, Warner Bros and New Line logos, Directed by Peter Jackson and the fast cuts between the introductions of the characters. Also the structure of the fast-paced shots.
How is the Narrative Made Clear?
Mostly through the use of codes (Barthes) that the audience identify and then make predictions from:
Enigma code: the ring, Dwarves, Adventure and the Elf woman – the audience has to work out the answer to the mysteries.
Action code: Battle scenes, Gollem and the Trolls – the audience will predict the winner
Hermeneutic code: The quest, “cannot guaranty his safety” – the audience expect the hero to face problems
How Is the Genre Made Clear?
Fantasy: Dwarves, Trolls, Wizards, Hobbits and elves, also a fantasy location, a non-specific time, props, costumes, special effects etc.
